FAQ´s

What is permaculture and how is it applied?

Permaculture is a tool that allows us to integrate two completely opposite ecosystems, such as natural and artificial ones. In this way, we can achieve a perfect and harmonious balance, providing us with a complete understanding of the place where we are.

As you delve into this deep and astonishing rainforest, you will find a state of peace and tranquility that will take you back to your origins through the simplest aspects, generating a connection with nature that you will never forget.

Our sustainable cabins provide a unique privacy nestled in the middle of our forest, offering you the silence and peace you’ve been searching for, along with the wonderful gift of a privileged view of San Nicolás Valley. We ensure your comfort with king, queen, or twin size beds, chairs, desks, entirely organic toiletries, private bathrooms with rainfall showers, WiFi, umbrellas, flashlights, and daily cleaning service.

We offer various activities right at the hotel, such as a permaculture tour where you’ll discover the magic behind this project, and a hike through a natural reserve along a pre-Hispanic path full of stories. Additionally, we provide bird watching opportunities using a guidebook to identify different species. Moreover, the hotel facilitates activities outside its premises, including paragliding tours in Cocorná, hiking along iron roads to Peñol, the cocoa route to San Francisco, and cycling routes through the diverse pathways and towns of eastern Antioquia.

Our mission is to create balance within the ecosystem where we reside, guided by permaculture philosophy. This approach has enabled us to construct our buildings using models and materials sourced from nature. Furthermore, our facilities are located within a natural reserve that supplies 50% of the water to the municipality of Marinilla. With this knowledge, we implement water reuse processes through highly specialized and environmentally friendly mechanisms.

Located in a temperate zone in the Andes mountains (elevation 2,200 – 2,600 m), you’ll be pleasantly surprised to discover that flowers bloom every day, and Cannúa enjoys spring and summer year-round. November to January and July to September are generally drier and warmer. February to May and October to November are considered the rainy seasons and are slightly cooler, although most days are warm and sunny

We encourage our guests to explore the biodiversity of our hotel, so we recommend bringing a good pair of hiking boots and comfortable daytime clothing. Due to our elevation, the sun can feel quite intense, so we suggest sunscreen and a hat. Evenings can be cool, so a sweater or jacket is appropriate. Occasionally, it may rain even outside the rainy season, and although we provide umbrellas and ponchos, it’s advisable to have a waterproof jacket. Regarding insects, while not a major issue due to our altitude, a natural insect repellent can be useful.

Most travelers to Colombia will only need routine vaccinations, along with vaccines for tetanus, typhoid fever, and hepatitis A. Travelers coming from certain countries may require a yellow fever vaccine. For updated information, we recommend visiting the CDC website, the National Travel Health Network and Centre, or your own country’s health system, and consulting with your doctor.
